In the Offing

“The Offing” is a nautical term: that part of the ocean just barely close enough to be seen from shore, out on the horizon where sea meets sky. It’s a mysterious zone where the seen and the unseen touch.

New Every Morning

“In landlessness alone resides highest truth,” Melville wrote. Growing up at the beach it was always possible to turn my back on earthly things and look to the horizon.
